The International Confederation of Popular Sports, IVV (Internationaler Volksport Verbander) was born in Lindau, Germany, in 1968 and officially registered in 1972. The founding countries were: Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austria. The Confederation has English, German and French as official languages. The head office is located in Altötting, Germany (Bavaria).
Currently, there are 30 national federations and 10 direct members representing more than 4,000 local clubs worldwide. Every year, there are more than 10,000,000 entries in more than 7,500 events organized around the world.
The mission of the International Confederation of People's Sports is to encourage public health through noncompetitive physical activities in a natural environment; provide opportunities for social engagement, volunteerism and community leadership; and contribute to peace and understanding between people and nations, promoting international friendship.
